Request to look into illegal encroachment in Thane

Thane Member of Parliament Sanjeev Naik and Thane Congress president Balkrishana Purnekar met Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan to discuss the problems of slum dwellers and illegal encroachments in Thane district. The two

leaders handed Chavan a letter with a list of points that they felt must be addressed at the earliest by the Maharashtra state government.

The main agenda of the meeting was the topic of illegal encroachments in the city, a point raised during the winter session of the state assembly by Airoli’s Member of Legislative Assembly Sandeep naik. MLA Naik had asked the state government to ensure that poor slum dwellers do not lose their homes.

In the meeting with the chief minister, the duo also spoke about how many residents of the city would be homeless if the state decided to term the encroachments as illegal and started demolishing them, said Naik, “The encroachments made up to 1995 were allowed to stand Encroachments made until 2000 may be allowed, if the honourable High Court decides to let them be regularize. We want to ensure that the state allows these poor people to reside in their houses in the name of humanity.”

The duo also wished chavan a happy new year. The Chief Minister assured the representatives that he would look into the matter.
